Strength in Trust
OneTrust’s mission is to enable innovation through the responsible use of data and AI. We believe that ensuring data is trusted shouldn’t slow teams down—it should accelerate what’s possible. This led us to develop the first technology platform for responsible data use in 2016. Today, with AI representing the latest and most impactful expansion of data yet, OneTrust is once again redefining what responsible innovation looks like. OneTrust, the AI‑Ready Governance Platform™, unifies regulatory intelligence, automation, and connected governance workflows so businesses can continue to move at the speed of AI while ensuring good governance to prevent data misuse at scale. Trusted by thousands of organizations worldwide, OneTrust is shaping the future where trusted data becomes a transformative force for business and society. The Challenge
We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead technical direction for our Consent & Preference team at OneTrust. Staff Engineers here own outcomes, not just designs; they decide how ambiguous, cross-cutting problems get solved when no existing playbook applies, and their judgment carries weight across teams they don't formally manage. Your Mission
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Lead architecture and design for systems with significant scope and blast radius, ensuring decisions hold up under real growth, compliance, and reliability constraints; not just initial requirements.
- Paying attention to application performance
- Exercise judgment on where AI-assisted tooling accelerates delivery and where deeper human design thinking is required
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Partner with Product, UX, and other engineering teams early, shaping problems before solutions are locked in.
- Build working relationships and technical credibility beyond your immediate team.
Quality & Standards
- Set engineering practices for code review norms, testing standards, and incident review rigor that outlast your direct involvement and get adopted by teams you don't sit on.
- Identify and address systemic risk (technical debt, architectural drift, single points of failure) before it becomes an incident.
Mentorship
- Mentor Senior and mid-level engineers on technical judgment: how to scope ambiguity, when to escalate vs. decide, and how to use (and not over-rely on) AI tooling in their own work.
- Help engineers build the skill of writing decisions down clearly enough that others can disagree productively.
You Are
Someone who determines methods and approach independently on new, complex assignments, and who is sought out by other engineers for technical guidance beyond your own team. You think in terms of systems and tradeoffs, not just individual tickets. Your Experience Includes
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Demonstrated track record leading technical initiatives that span multiple engineers or systems
- Deep expertise in frontend and/or backend technologies relevant to OneTrust's platform, including cloud architecture experience
- Experience with CI/CD and orchestration frameworks
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Devin, Windsurf, or similar) in a professional setting, with genuine enthusiasm for applying AI to accelerate and elevate day-to-day engineering work.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with Java/Spring Boot and microservices architectures.
- Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience building SaaS products at scale.
